DORIS MOLLEL FOUNDATION IN COLLABORATION WITH SWAHILI FASHION WEEK
“BABA NA MAMA NJITI WRAP”

BACKGROUND
Building on the success of the joint project "BABA NA MAMA NJITI WRAP" that offered free body checkups to over 100 preterm infants and their parents in Dar Es Salaam, we have identified an urgent need for proper carriers that provide comfort and support for these fragile infants. The experience of parents not being satisfied with the existing carriers, along with the physical strain they experienced, necessitated an intervention. We aim to introduce unisex carriers that will enhance the comfort of babies and encourage greater involvement of fathers in caring for their newborns.

OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the project is to introduce a unique runway segment during Swahili Fashion Week that highlights premature babies and their caregivers. We aim to address the challenges caregivers face in carrying their babies comfortably and safely. Through our collaboration with Swahili Fashion Week, we aspire to achieve the following objectives:
Raise Awareness: Increase public awareness about the challenges faced by caregivers of premature infants and the need for proper carriers.
Promote Male Involvement: Encourage greater involvement of fathers and male caregivers in the care of premature babies.
Fashion as a Medium: Bridge the gap between fashion and meaningful real-life narratives, creating a powerful platform to convey important messages.
